Beauty Resolutions for 2012

We all make new years resolution and never stick to them (or stick to them for a few months and forget about them). I read some good beauty resolutions we could all follow:

I WILL cleanse, tone and moisturise.
I WILL dare to wear colours I have never worn before e.g. trying that HOT pink lipstick
I WILL not sleep with my make up on
I WILL detox my make up bag and tools
I WILL remove my chipped nail polish
I WILL exfoliate my face for a refined finish
I WILL wear SPF

There are probably more beauty resolutions out there but I thought I would share a few!

As a make up artist, MAC cosmetics is one of my favourite brands. I like using their eyeshadows, as the pigments are strong and provides the desired colour you are after.

On their website, MAC professional make up artists are showing make up tutorials. They are really good for gaining simplified tips that you just can't seem to get right!

I have not updated my blog for a long while, but here is my story so far...

The Meatloaf Music Video

Meatloaf is bringing out a new single called 'Los Angeloser' from his new album.

I was lucky enough to work on his music video for his single. He was a really nice man, very down to earth and has a great voice!

It was a long day, but we finally nailed the video and Meatloaf really enjoyed himself.

Pineapple Studios - Starman

All those people who watch Pineapple Studios, this week i was featured on the program for Andrew Stone's gig at the Underbelly, Hoxston London.

I will keep you posted on what is in store for me next!

I was lucky enough to work on this project for this new band being followed by Sky 1.

The band is called 'Starman' they are a 6 piece band with sounds of pop and electro. They write their own music which is really fun and catchy! Music that everyone would enjoy!

I did the make up for their gig at the Underbelly in Hoxston Square, London and at their showcase in front of potential record companies at the Proud Gallerys, Camden.

I really hope that they achieve the ultimate goal of getting a record deal! They are all a really lovely bunch and i hope that i get to work with them again soon!

I have added a clip of the band below, that i took with my camera and will upload some pictures on my portfolio page.

Starman will be showing on Sky 1 in February 2010, so watch this space!

Sorry its been a while since i have posted anything on my blog!

I have been really busy! I got the chance to go to Abu Dhabi to help out at the Formula 1 at the end of Oct 2009! It was such a great experience! I got to watch the race and meet lots of famous people too! :-)

I even met some new fashion photographers who i will be collaborating with in the near future! So watch this space!

I have been networking mostly that is why this blog has not been updated much. I am in the process of getting a website made, but if anyone knows, website planning takes a while to get right and you want to make sure your website portrays what you want it too!

I have had a crazy month that is why i haven't been able to update my blog for a long time!

Make-up shoots!

It has been a few days since I have published a post but I have been busy with make-up shoots.

A few weeks ago I did a make-up shoot with a local hair salon, United Salons (www.unitedsalons.co.uk) Great hair salon, with very talented hairstylists. I worked with great photographer's from PostArt. Paul and Dave are great guys to work with! They make any photo shoot relaxing but also very fun too! They can give great direction to any inspiring models who have never been in front of a camera before.

They produce great images for any theme/scenario that is set. We did a hair shoot for the hairdressers United Salons www.unitedsalons.co.uk Please have a look at my portfolio to view the final pictures. They look great!

This was a great day and the make-up was done to complement the hair. I will post the pictures soon...

I was also on a music video the other day for the Barmy Army!! (It's to do with Cricket fans!) This was a fun day and I will keep you posted when the video is on You Tube.

I have been very fortunate to be able to assist some great mua's within the beauty industry (Louise Constad and Lisa Laudat).

They have inspired and given me advice on how I can become a successful mua like them. There are many other great mua's within the beauty and fashion industry I also admire and hope one day that I can be as successful as they are today!

Model Mayhem

I have found that Model Mayhem (MM) is a great site for all make-up artists (mua) to sign up to (especially at the beginning of your career).

MM allows you to display your work, so that others can view it. Not only mua's are on their, photographers, models, hairstylists, clothing designers and other creative people.

At the beginning of your mua career, you main objective is to build your portfolio up with different make-up looks and styles. With MM you are able to network with potential photographers, models, hairstylists and stylists who may be in the same shoes as you are.

As an mua you will start browzing for photographers to collaborate with to organise test shoots. You may come across people who might not test no more but its worth letting them know that you are available and that you would like to collaborate with them if they need an mua. As you just might be someone they think off next time when they are doing a photoshoot.

MM is a great place to meet people who can help build up your portfolio but also build a relationship that can lead on to more work in the future. All you need, is to state your purpose for your profile and a few pictures to set up an account and then your on your way!

I would just like to Welcome you all to my blog!

Also, I thought I would share with you a little bit more about me and how my blog will work.

I have always loved makeup and experimenting with colours but never thought i could pursue a career out of it. Alongside my freelance work, I work for Estee Lauder, which allows me to pratice and experiment with makeup all the time on different faces. I then decided to do a makeup course with Louise Constad.

From all this, it made me realise that this is what i really want to do... become a MAKEUP ARTIST!

My blog will be taking you through my day to day journey as a freelance makeup artist, sharing useful tips, advice and online resources i pick up along the way and to also showcase my makeup work for you all to see.

Just like every creative artist your portfolio is always a work in progress, so I hope this blog will show you how i grow as a makeup artist and how i take on bigger and better challenges as a freelancer.

My name is Lani Douangchak and I am a freelance make up artist.

I have a vast experience in make-up artistry and have been fortunate enough to work on many exciting and prestigious projects. I have worked with some extremely talented photographers, video directors, hair stylists and models and love being part of a creative team.

Some of these include, music videos for major label recording artists, commercials for worldwide beauty brands and various types of photoshoots (fashion, beauty, editorial, lifestyle and bridal, etc).
